OK-Pro Jig Assist Hooks
Prepare your jigging setup with OK-Pro jig assist hooks. Whether you are rigging a jig before a trip or replacing worn assists, match the hook size and cord length to your jig so the hooks can swing freely without tangling.
Use the guide below to plan a single or twin assist hook setup, connect your rings and check when your gear needs replacing.
Assist Hook Rigging Guide
Single or twin assist hooks?
A single assist is a simple starting setup with fewer hooks to handle and fewer opportunities to tangle. A twin assist adds a second hook, but needs enough clearance for both hooks to swing freely. Choose by jig shape and action, not a fixed jig-weight cutoff. Check that neither setup wraps around the jig or catches the leader before fishing.
Hook and assist cord length
For a head-mounted assist, start with the hook hanging around the upper third of the jig, then adjust to suit its shape. Measure the complete assembly, including cord and hook, rather than cord alone. Choose a hook with a gape that clears the jig body. Keep twin hooks short enough that they do not lock together; if using tail hooks too, ensure the head and tail hooks cannot reach each other.
Attaching assists: solid ring and split ring
A practical arrangement is to attach the assist cord to a solid ring, tie your leader to that solid ring, and use a suitably rated split ring to connect the jig. The rings have different jobs: the solid ring carries the leader and assist, while the split ring lets you change jigs. Avoid tying the leader across a split ring's opening. Match all components to your tackle and check that the split ring closes fully after fitting.
When to replace your assist hooks
Inspect before and after every trip, and after a snag or hard fight. Replace frayed or cut cord, bent or cracked hooks, badly corroded components, and rings that are distorted or no longer close properly. Check both points on twin rigs; sharpen suitable dull hooks or replace them if the point cannot be restored. Rinse with fresh water and dry before storage. Replace according to condition, not a fixed number of trips.
